Visitor Center

One of North Lake Tahoe’s “best-kept secrets” is the power of its Visitor Information Centers. The North Tahoe Chamber operates two visitor centers: Tahoe City and Kings Beach. The Visitor Information Centers operate 364 days per year, offering directions, maps, information, brochures, and referrals to many of our local businesses. Visitors often inquire about hiking trails, lodging, restaurants, road conditions, water activities, mountain activities and events.

In addition, Visitor Information Center staff manage a small retail store with 80% of its items from local vendors. A monthly rotating art wall also offers local artists a place to exhibit their work.

In the last year in Tahoe City, Kings Beach, plus by phone, email and at events, visitor center staff engaged with almost 65,000 people, representing a 21% increase over the previous year.

Approximately 130 referrals to local restaurants and shops, historic mansions, campsites, museums and more were made every day of the year, totaling over 47,000 and representing a 19% increase as compared to last year. And, sales of merchandise sold through the visitor center, which includes the work of local artisans who often do not have their own storefronts, increased 39% in 2023-24.

A partnership between the North Tahoe Chamber and the UC Davis Tahoe Environmental Research Center (TERC) has created a new opportunity to experience popular exhibits focused on the Lake Tahoe environment and destination stewardship concepts. The North Lake Tahoe Visitor Center in Tahoe City now features four interactive exhibits that offer information about microplastics in the Tahoe environment, the watershed, and what makes Tahoe unique.
